Peregrine wins 2016 Australian Retail Awards – Retail Employer of the Year
Peregrine Corporation, owner of OTR convenience stores, has won the 2016 Australian Retail Awards Retail Employer of the Year, which was announced this morning.
The South Australian family company, which formed in 1984, has grown to become South Australia’s largest private employer and one of the biggest investors in the local economy, employing more than 3300 staff.
As the winner of the award, Peregrine was recognised as a leading employer of choice within the retail sector and demonstrated a strong track record in staff training and education programs, internal communication, community support programs and corporate social responsibility.
Russell Zimmerman, Australian Retailers Association, Executive Director said, “Peregrine is a worthy winner of the Frontline Retail Employer of the Year, their commitment to supporting its people and store owners, from head office to shop floor is a fantastic example of what it takes to be a top employer.”

“This award is in recognition for our amazing team, many of them have contributed from the beginning, including our first and longest serving employees, Hilmi who has been with us for 20 years and manages the Peregrine Warehouse.
“We also have many examples of employees who started as casuals in our stores and have become executives within the company like Mel Millard who is now our General Manager of Food but started her career as a sandwich artist at an OTR Subway store,” said Michaela.
Peregrine has many exciting future plans which include a new $50 million investment in its Adelaide head office and centre of innovation.
Some of the other winners included Aldi who won 2016 eftpos Retailer of the Year, Wilson Retail who won Independent Retailer of the Year and Jacob Purtell Harris Scarfe who won Industry Super Retail Employee of the Year.
