OTR Supersprint Wins Major Event

The OTR SuperSprint has taken out the Major Event of the Year at the 2018 South Australian Sport Awards. Each year the awards honour those who have made an outstanding contribution to sport in South Australia, as individual or team athletes, coaches, administrators and volunteers from both metropolitan and regional areas of South Australia and recognises our state’s great events.

Held in August 2018, less than six months after the motorsport park opened its doors, the OTR SuperSprint saw over 41,000 attendees enjoy the inaugural round of the Virgin Australia Supercar Championship at The Bend. Selected as a finalist along with the City to Bay Fun Run, the SuperSprint is an annual fixture on the calendar at The Bend with a partnership currently set with Supercars to run until 2021 Speaking of the win, park Managing Director, Sam Shahin said “considering the calibre of fantastic events held in South Australia each year, it’s fantastic to be recognised with the award for our first Supercar event. We are already preparing for the 2019 event, and talking to a number of organisers and promoters about adding to our major event calendar for 2019 and beyond.”

In readiness for the summer holiday period, The Bend is applying final touches to a range of experiences that will become available in the next week including Hire Karts, 4WDing, V8 Hot Laps, and The Bend’s Driver Experience program where visitors can experience a range of performance and specialty vehicles across the different precincts in the park.

2018 South Australian Sport Awards – Major Event Category

The Major Event of the Year Award, is an event that can be considered to have achieved a high standard of excellence. A nominated event must be conducted by professional management staff. The event may involve local, regional, state, national or international competitors; single or multi sports and has been contested by individuals or teams, professionals or amateurs. Above all it has to set itself apart from other events through its high standard of organisation and its resounding success. The event must show a significant impact on community values, awareness of the sport/and or significant economic benefits. The state organisation must show significant involvement in the event.
